On our way to see the Peaks of Europe we stopped in the municipality of Cangas de Onis in the autonomous community of Asturias. It was the first capital of the Asturious kingdom in the eighth century established by king Pelayo who expelled the muslims. In the town of Covadanga we were able to see the Santa Cueva (cave) home of the patron Saint of Asturias. Inside the cave through some windows you can view the beautiful church Basílica de Santa María la Real de Covadanga. If you time it right you can hear the bills ringing.
