Today I visited the Thyssen this afternoon after classes. The museum is named after its founder. It originally was one of the most important private art collections in Europe that was brought to Madrid as a museum in 1992. Our tour guide Leonor, also a professor of art at The University of Complutense was fabulous. This museum forms part of the "Golden Triangle" of museums in Madrid which includes The Prado Museum and the Museum Reína Sofia. It differs from the other two museums because it is consists of ancient and modern paintings ranging from the 13th to 20th centuries. It not made up of only Spanish artist but also includes well known foreign artists like Monet, Rembrant, Renoir and many more. You can view art work of all styles and movements from the baroque, renaissance, impressionism, cubism, modernism, and pop art from the 1980's. Next time I return to Spain I cannot wait to go back.
